Valley View Hot Springs – Colorado Road Trip
Valley View Hot Springs is an amazing place for the eco tourist and mountain adventurer.
This beautiful place is part of the Orient Land Trust, which is involved with much more than just the hot springs. I’ll tell you a little more about OLT in a bit…
Valley View Hot Springs is located South East of Salida and Poncha Springs. It is situated on the side of the mountain, below Cottonwood Peak, above the vast and beautiful mountain valley. It is reached by driving to the end of an empty gravel road that seemingly leads to nowhere.
The hot springs have several natural pools, a large cement swimming pool, a sauna, two shower houses, several cabins, a community cabin with private and shared dorm rooms, camp sites for vehicles, and tent camping sites.
The tent camping sites allow visitors and guests to reside in the woods, next to hot spring pools, and away from cars and crowds.
The Orient Land Trust is a beautiful 2.5 hour drive South of Breckenridge off of Highway 285 and South West of Colorado Springs.
My personal experience has shown that one-night is definitely not a long enough stay. Even two nights does not seem like enough because it takes a bit of time to wind down and forget about the details of life.
If you are camping, make sure you are aware of bear safety. There are lots of wild animals in the mountains and campgrounds. It is important that you understand how to properly store and discard food items. Also, make sure to have a plan in place to remove all of your trash and foreign objects from your camp ground.
